Confusion Rocks Manhyia North NPP

THE MANHYIA North Constituency of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is embroiled in a leadership turmoil, as a result of confusion over ward and polling station elections organized in the constituency. Some of the interim executives of the party are at loggerheads with the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwaah, after he was alleged to have surreptitiously sanctioned polling stations elections in an attempt to have his loyalists at post. In an alleged attempt to enhance his legislative position for the second term, the MP is being accused of nicodemously organizing polling station elections, by using an unapproved album. A counter election was also held subsequently by the election committee, without the knowledge of the MP and the acting chairman, nullifying the previous one organized under the supervision of the MP. The Regional Secretariat of the party has since nullified the elections, describing it as illegal, but the MP insists the decision to organize the election was approved by the Constituency Executive Committee. Collins Owusu Amankwaah, aka, Chief, is accusing some party executives of being behind a grand scheme to deny him a second term in the august house come 2016. Mr. Frederick Fredua Antoh, however, told a local radio station that the executive hierarchy of the party does not recognize any polling station and ward elections organized without the use of proper photo album, stating emphatically that such election is deemed null and void. According to him, there are laid down guidelines and procedures that ought to be followed in the organization of such local elections, stressing that the party would no longer entertain the practice whereby some individuals, through their selfish interests, compile albums, using their cronies and loyalists as a means of enhancing their electoral chances. He promised therefore that the confusion that has rocked the constituency would soon be settled for the proper thing to be done. The opposition party is currently undertaking polling station and ward elections to elect executives who will in turn elect Constituency executives after which Regional Congresses shall be held to select regional executives.
