GIPC Boss Cuts Sod For $40m SCAW Metal Investment At Tema

Mrs Mawuena Trebarh the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), on Wednesday cut the sod at the $40m metal investment at Tema along with the South African Ministers of Trade and Foreign Affairs and Mr. Robert Gumede the South African Strategic Investor. Mawuena Trebarh, in her speech, confirmed President Mahamas commitment to private sector investment saying Im fully committed to engaging with the private sector to support your commercial interests while concurrently driving development for our respective countries. Indeed, many of the bilateral meetings between various sector Ministers will only reinforce that commitment. The GIPC Boss went on to say, following the recently held Business Forum between South Africa and Ghana, that It is my understanding that there have been very lively discussions across key sectors of economic development including energy, infrastructure, oil and gas, agriculture and manufacturing. I have been informed that there is a great deal of enthusiasm behind value creation across the entire commerce chain and this is exactly the direction the continent must continue to progress. Mawuena Trebarh, sensitive of the special relationship between the two countries confirmed that, Ghana and South Africa have a long standing geopolitical history and I believe our statistics on investment over the last decade between the two countries demonstrate that there is fundamentally more room to partner. She said Our desire to partner South African businesses has been part of our investment drive initiated many years ago. It is my privilege to continue that legacy with investment promotion activities initiated under my office this year to South Africa. These have among others culminated in this exciting USD $40 million dollar investment in the steel beneficiation industry through the Scaw Metals Group of South Africa I am confident that the remarks and presentations you have heard from sister government institutions yesterday will have long term influence on how each one of your organizations executes and delivers Pan African corporate excellence for the mutual benefit of both our countries. Mawuena Trebarh in encouraging a South South opportunity for trade and investment said that there is no question that Africa is the last great business frontier. However, in order to leverage the opportunities for profitability and development we must maximize our individual experiences on the continent and build our strength in partnerships with outcomes that create more negotiating power on the global business stage. She concluded by saying that you can count on the continued commitment of the GIPC to working as directed by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to propel private sector development in order to transform our economy and create the requisite development that truly defines the hopes and aspirations of Ghana".
