Police Administration Stops Mass Promotion

The Police Administration has stopped mass promotion of personnel below the ranks of a Chief Inspector with Immediate effect. This is in view of the lack of competence on the part of some personnel to handle their new responsibilities. Consequently, personnel within the ranks of general constables, lance corporals, sergeants and Inspectors would have to go through a promotional course to equip them with the necessary skills and technicalities associated with their new roles before they are promoted. However, personnel who fall within the ranks but have not demonstrated any good behaviour or are facing service enquirers and other charges of gross misconduct would not be shortlisted for the course. Chief Superintendent Nuhu Jango, the Nima Divisional Commander, dropped the hint in Accra yesterday, when he opened a five-day promotional course for 04 personnel of the division. The Nima Divisional Police Commander comprises Airport, Kotobabi, Nima and the Legon District Police station including tent police posts. Chief Supt. Jango said the course had become necessary to test their aptitude on a wide of issues and their ability to perform in their new post. After the course, participants would be interviewed and those who emerge successful will be promoted to their next ranks, he said and urged them to take the course seriously. Touching on the crime situation within the Division, Chief Supt. Jango said, crime wave had declined because of the introduction of motorbike and vehicular patrols during the day and night to arrest criminals. He urged the public to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to deal with organized crime.
