Circumstances surrounding sale of Merchant Bank would be unraveled- Lawyer

Nana Obiri Boahen, a legal practitioner has said with time the circumstances surrounding the sale of Merchant Bank to Private Equity Fund Fortiz, would definitely be unraveled. �The Presidency, Fortiz and Merchant Bank are not learning from history. If sale of the drill ship has been revisited then I can bet you this issue would be revisited in the foreseeable future,� he noted. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, the lawyer noted that the drill ship which was sold 12 years ago had generated a lot of controversies. �Ghanaians have had the opportunity to know the circumstance surrounding the sale of the drill ship. We now know who issue and held the cheque, who opened an account and the people involved as well as the roles they played,� he added. Nana Obiri Boahen said: �Let us relax if 12 years ago the issue of drill ship could be revisited, I assure Ghanaians that in the foreseeable future the circumstances surrounding the sale Merchant to Fortiz would be unravelled. �We will know debts that were to be written off and those people whose action caused the sale of the bank.�� The sale of Merchant Bank to Fortiz has generated a lot of controversies. The Centre for Freedom and Accuracy had filed a suit in court seeking an injunction against the controversial sale of the state-owned bank. Apart from the bank (Merchant Bank), Social Security and National Insurance Trust, Bank of Ghana, Fortiz and KPMG and some board members of Merchant Bank have been dragged into the suit.
