Ghana Rubber Estates To Double Rubber Production By 2020

The Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL) says it is working assiduously towards doubling its current production capacity of 17 thousand to over 45 thousand tons per annum by the year 2020. The Managing Director of GREL, Lionel Barres, said this will translate into multiple jobs, improve workers' conditions and also enhance Corporate Social Responsibility projects in the company's catchment area. Ghana Rubber Estate Limited, a public-private initiative is the leader in rubber production in Ghana, and employs over four thousand people. GREL exports nearly 100% of its natural rubber produce abroad, raking in thousands of foreign exchange to Ghana. The company has already exported over19 thousand tons of natural rubber amounting to 40 Million Euros this year.GREL was named the 20th best company in Ghana in the 2013 list of the prestigious Ghana Club 100 awards. Lionel Barres, said its production and employment capacity in parts of Eastern, Central and Western Regions would double by the year 2020, following the acquisition of another four thousand hectors of land for expansion. Mr. Barres was speaking at a ceremony to award outstanding workers for their contribution to the company�s growth. In recognition of employees� contribution to GREL�s performance in the year 2013, over 30 employees were awarded with assorted electrical home appliances and other prizes. The Human Resource Manager of GREL, John Edoh, said the awards primarily aim at motivating the workers to do more in the coming years. He said the company will continue to recognize and appreciate hardworking staff as they work towards doubling their production capacity by the year 2020.
