The Tano North District Assembly has earmarked a 50-acre land at Duayaw Nkwanta, the district capital, for use by the Tano North Garages Association. The project, which primarily seeks to open up the area for socio-economic activities, is also aimed at re-organising and re-settling the numerous artisans of the Association scattered in and around the Sunyani Municipality. Mr Ernest Kusi-Duah, Presiding Member of the Tano North District Assembly said these in an address at the Assembly�s last general meeting for 2013. He revealed that the processes for the acquisition of the land were far advanced, and hoped the project would start next year, 2014. Mr Kusi-Duah explained that the project would go a long way to develop and enhance socio-economic activities in the area, and boost the image of the district and its environs. Responding to the gesture, Evangelist John Kwaku Zigah, Chairman of the Tano North Garages Association said, the project would not only unite members of the Association who hitherto had been fragmented, but more importantly, improve the living standards of people in the area. Evangelist Zigah, who was instrumental in mooting the idea of re-settling the artisans, hinted that the project, when completed would accommodate hundreds of artisans made up of fitters, sprayers, welders, auto-electricians, machine shop operators and upholsters. He said the project was timely and laudable because it would create more job opportunities for the youth, and also enable some of them acquire employable skills. It would also develop the area into a booming community, and bring revenue to the District Assembly and the Central Government for national development, he noted. The Chairman used the occasion to commend the District Chief Executive, Mr Apraku Lartey and the entire leadership and members of the Assembly for their support and co-operation towards the initiation of the project, and urged them not to relent in their efforts in ensuring that the dream comes true. In a Christmas and New Year message to member of the house, the DCE cautioned Ghanaians to celebrate the Yuletide in moderation, in order to enter the New Year unscathed. He announced that the Assembly had taken delivery of some building materials like roofing sheets, iron rods and cement meant for community initiated projects, and urged the respective assembly members to make good use of the offer. Mr Michael Yeboah, also known as �IGP�, a staff of the District Assembly Registry, was adjudged the Over-all Best Worker for the year 2013, and for his prize, he took home a refrigerator.
