Take Time To Enjoy My 'Potomanto' - Frimpong-Manso

Multiple award-wining movie producer and director, Shirley Frimpong-Manso, has repeatedly set the standards in the Ghanaian/African movie arena, scoring high marks that have pushed her to roll out improved works over the last few years. Now she is out with another intriguing movie that is markedly outside the usual African movie stories of love affairs and comedy. She tells me that with her latest film, POTOMANTO, she intends to challenge movie lovers to take their time to appreciate and enjoy intricate stories that offer maximum satisfaction and life changing lessons. Shirley says she expects the POTOMANTO story to grow naturally in the viewers imaginations as they watch it. I don not want them to correctly predict the end of the story right from the first few scenes. We have got to move away from that in order to encourage our viewers to enjoy our stories better. She says she knows that Ghanaians and movie lovers around the globe like good films with excellent story lines, sharp pictures and clearer sound among others, and that is exactly what she is presenting in POTOMANTO, which is currently showing at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra. The word POTOMANTO is a corrupted version of the French word Portmanteau which means, large suitcase. In the movie, ex-police office Adane is angry about being cheated on, so he sets out to take his pound of flesh when he employs his skills to catching women who cheat on their men. But he is in for a real cat and mouse game when he is hired to catch Susan, the alluring wife of a wealthy Nigerian businessman. However, the chase takes a different turn as a string of bizarre murders among seemingly young hustlers engulf the community. Soon, it becomes apparent that the pursuit of greener pastures has manifested in a diabolical plot of illegal organ harvesting leavings its ignorant victims maimed or dead. What follows is a terrifying race against time where two people from opposite sides of the law must face horrific dangers in an attempt to stop the canker that is annihilating the entire generation. Starring Adjetey Anang, Olu Jacobs, Yvonne Okoro, Marie Humbert, Mikki Osei-Berko (Master Richard of Taxi Driver fame), POTOMANTO was premiered on December 20 at the Silverbird Cinema in Accra. To give its numerous patrons and prospective fans more value for their money, Sparrow Productions has repositioned itself with the launch of what it calls the The 4 BIG THINGS A new movie (POTOMANTO), a new logo that expresses its values and new direction. It has also put one of its most popular productions, Adams Apples Season Two on DVD to make it more accessible to the people; and has launched a website the Sparrow Station| where short films will be made available for quick viewing. For the past six years, Shirley Frimpong Manso and her Sparrow Productions team have released some fine films that have raked in several awards locally and internationally. They include, the Perfect Picture, A Sting In A Tale, Six Hours To Christmas and Adams Apples.
