The National Petroleum Authority says the acute fuel shortage in parts of the capital may be resolved by the end of the week. JoyNews checks reveal some parts of Accra are still experiencing fuel shortages. Some drivers, both commercial and private, have expressed frustration over shortages after they were turned away by fuel attendants. Some of the attendants confirmed the shortages but could not explain the reason for the shortages. Public Relations Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Yaro Kasambata told Myjoyonline.com, a multiplicity of factors are responsible for the shortages. He said the increase in consumption during the Christmas and New Year celebrations and other unforeseeable factors led to the shortage. "Bad weather at sea was not something within our control. That is what affected the arrival of the dated cargoes that was supposed to have been received before the Christmas, to be discharged for use before Christmas. "What we had we distributed to the market prior to Christmas, during Christmas," he said. He stated however, that the depots are now receiving products for distribution to the various retail stations. "We anticipate that sometime this week we should be able to stabilise the situation," he hinted.
