NPP Massaging Nana Addos Ego With Their Uterances

Fellow Ghanaians, there is a very thin line between foolishness and ignorance, yet both are not interchangeable. However, ignorance is the biological mother of all appearances of foolishness. It is almost a given that ignorance isnt excusable even if it was painted in auto-base paint or washed in the sea! There are no people in the world, who magnify ignorance than some of our compatriots in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Read this: The leaders of the Ghanaian Muslim Association in UK on Saturday paid a courtesy call on Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo -Addo and his wife in his London home. This call on the NPP 2012 Flagbearer was in response to his visit he paid to the London Ghanaian Community Mosque on Friday December 27 for worship, special prayers and interaction with the Muslim community. It was also to bid him farewell as he and his wife prepare to return to Ghana later this month, after his three months sojourn in London, UK. Like seriously, with all apologies to funny face in the Vodafon advert, is this news that should make headline in the media? Very soon, we will be reading stories of meetings Nana Addo has held with his family and perhaps who invited over for lunch or dinner. What at all has Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo done to the NPP that he has become so indispensable? The future of the party seems to be tied to what Nana Addo says or does. His supporters now bask in the touch not my prophet and do my prophet no harm diatribe, thereby, applying it out of context and in blatant disregard to the rules of natural justice and fair competition to harass anybody who dare challenge or question his capacity as a politician to deliver victory to the party. Some stalwarts in the party, who have not been hypnotized by Nana Addos personality and felt that he was the principal reason why they lost both the 2008 and 2012 elections, when they aired their views and called for a change of leadership, were tagged and called rebels and were almost excommunicated from the party. Some have even become outcasts in the party that they sacrificed to build. Ex-President, John Agyekum Kufuor, had his fair share of Touch not my anointing and do my Prophet no harm crusade, when he decided to attend the inauguration of President-elect, John Dramani Mahama. The hooligans and die-hard supporters of Nana Addo stormed his Airport West residence, to prevent him from honoring an invitation to a national duty. It is interesting that today, we hear members of the party, say that John Agyekum Kufuor has transcended politics and that he behaves more of a statesman than ex-President Jerry John Rawlings. This was the same man, in living up to his statesmanship was almost prevented from attending the investiture of President Mahama. This is why I have always said that, when it comes to NPP, they engage in politics of convenience. Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy, was the first of such victims, when he chronicled what happened during the 2008, when he was Director of Communication, in his famous book Chasing the Elephant into the Bush, Politics of Complacency. He came under barrage of attacks; his membership of the party was questioned and he was virtually thrown under the bus. It was no surprising that during the 2012 campaign, he was nowhere near the campaign team as Nana Addos fanatics, have vowed to deal with him. Dr. Wereko Brobbey, also stirred the honest nest, when he chose to question the suitability of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the star witness for Nana Addo, in the election petition, challenging the legitimacy of President John Dramani Mahama filed at the Supreme Court. I said the Star witness for Nana Addo, because events and utterances after the eight months long useless petition, points to the effect that not all or majority of the supporters, knew they lost the 2012 elections fair and square, but in order to massage Nana Addos ego, he was allowed to go to court, so that the Supreme Court, will put the matter to rest. What did Dr. Brobbey say that warranted the vile attacks that came his way? He was almost lynched when the Disciplinary Committee of the party invited him to the Party Headquarters to explain why he thinks that You cannot close the staple, once the horse has bolted. Fast forward to the latest punching bag, Dr. Konadu Apraku. His charge is that he said in effect that the product they have been trying to sell since 2008, has lost value and it was time to not only change the advertising campaign, but to change the product. His thought was that NPP is better off without Nana Addo, and that if the party is desirous of winning the 2016 elections, they should do away with the old horse. He also declared his intention to be the Presidential candidate for the 2016 elections, since that pronouncement in Kumasi, hell has broken loose, he has been called a traitor, incompetent, corrupt and threatened. These threats came from people, including the General Secretary, Kwawdo Owusu Afriyie, alias Sir John, who have himself publicly declared for Nana Addo and said that even if he (Nana Addo) was in a wheel-chair he will lead the NPP in 2016, this was against the partys Constitution, for an Executive to display bias towards one candidate, yet the Sir of Junk, also had the moral courage to descend on the poor Dr. Apraku. There was another No-Nana-No vote mantra making the rounds, no single individual in the party has raised a finger against those promoting such madness. Yet they are always ready to devour anybody who thinks Nana Addo is not suitable for 2016. Does it mean that God forbid, but should Nana Addo be summoned to meet his maker, these people will not vote for the next NPP candidate? Does it mean that should Nana Addo lose in the Primaries, which I foresee, they will not support the candidate who will emerge victorious? Only time will tell.
