CHAN: Ghana Faces Nigeria In Semi-Final

Ghana will face Nigeria in the African Nations Championship semi-finals after a 1-0 victory over DR Congo. The Black Stars secured their place in the last four thanks to Kwabena Adusei's 69th-minute penalty at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. In Sunday's other quarter-final, Libya beat Gabon 4-2 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 following extra time. Libya will now face Zimbabwe, who caused an upset when they beat Mali in their quarter-final on Saturday. Ghana were awarded a penalty after the referee judged that one of the DR Congo players handled inside the area and Adusei calmly converted from the spot. DR Congo had opportunities to equalise but were unable to find a way past Ghana goalkeeper Stephen Adams. Ghana striker Mohammed Yahaya should have put the game beyond doubt in the 83rd minute when he broke clear only to shoot straight at DR Congo goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba. Earlier, Libya knocked out Gabon on spot-kicks after a hard-fought encounter in Polokwane. Libyan striker Abdelsalam Omar struck first in the 50th minutes when he lobbed Gabon's keeper, who was caught well off his line. Daniel Cousin levelled from the spot for Gabon in the 75th minute and it remained 1-1 until the end of extra-time. The teams traded successful spot kicks until the effort of Gabon's Alain Djissikadie Mpaga was stopped by the Libyan keeper. The semi-finals will take place on Wednesday 29 January.
