Bawumia Lands Classroom Job Again!

The economist and politician Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who partnered Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, has abandoned his political dream of becoming the second most powerful individual in Ghana for classroom work. The Herald can confirm that the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), who was accredited with the smooth introduction of the EZWICH card, has been appointed as the Head of Economics Department at the Central University College (CUC), owned by the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) led by Dr. Mensa Otabil. According to this papers, scouts at the school, Dr. Bawumia, has being working with the private university immediately upon his returned from Zimbabwe, where he served as the Country Director for the African Development Bank (AFDB). Dr. Bawumias teaching job, means he has abandoned the African Development Bank at Uganda as Country Director; a job offered him in April, last year, during the heat of the Supreme Court election petition hearing where he became famous for saying You and I were not there in response to questions about his claims that the Electoral Commission (EC) stole the presidential election in favour of President John Mahama. The son of the onetime Chairman of Council of State under President Jerry John Rawlings, Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, also got the nickname Dr. Pink Sheet in reference to his Pink Sheets from the EC on which the results of the presidential election was captured in the over 20,000 polling stations during the 2012 election. Political analysts have said, his decision to take up a new job in Ghana, instead of a high-flying-more-lucrative is to enable him be in touch with his political mentor, Nana Addo who is lasing his boots to contest for the NPP flagbearer slot for the third and perhaps final time. Dr. Bawumias role as the Head of Economics Department and an Associate Professor at Central University College is to work for the advancement of the department. Dr. Bawumia will be in the university with his bosom friend, Professor Ken Attafuah, the former Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA) and a criminologist. The ex-Deputy Governor took up an appointment at a Canadian university as an Associate Professor of Economics in 2009, when his party lost the election to Prof. John Evans Atta Mills. He later moved to Zimbabwe as AFDB Country Director. He subsequently took a Leave of Absence to pursue his second attempt at the Vice-presidency in 2012. Dr. Bawumia takes this appointment at a time Ghanaians and majority of his party supporters are expressing concerns about the ill-health of his political mentor, Nana Addo. NPP cash-controller, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, who is also a cousin of Nana Akufo-Addo, is a friend of the former Vice-Presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia. Mr. Ofori-Atta is also a bosom friend to Dr. Otabil and a board member of the Central University College and is suspected to have influenced the engagement of Dr. Bawumia. Some students, who have been seeing the NPP vice-presidential candidate, said the gentleman since his appointment has been beaming with smiles anytime he visits the Dawyena campus of the school.
