Ghana�s award-winning and leading gospel acappella music quartet, Alabaster Box made a surprising appearance on the world-acclaimed BBC Focus on Africa on BBC World TV.
The group was the first ever gospel music act, and the first Ghanaian group to have made an appearance on the show since its inception at the massive BBC Broadcasting House in London.
Alabaster Box was in the UK on the invitation of Jesus House London, and also to tour several other churches across a number of cities in the UK.
Group leader, Samuel Dowuona, who is also News Editor of Multimedia�s Adom FM said �we were originally billed to appear on BBC Focus on Africa on radio but after the recording of radio the interview with Akwasi Sarpong we took a stroll to the TV section where we met the new host of Focus on Africa TV show, Sophie Ikenya and she insisted we did TV as well.�
Alabaster Box rocked the show with their unique form of acappella nicked-named �Afroppella�; creating mouth-made beats of purely indigenous African instruments accompanied by African harmonies to deliver gospel music.
They delivered an abridged version of their most captivating beat box song nick-named �Gome�, which brings a message of hope to all that God�s promises are sure, after which Sophie interviewed Samuel about the groups past exploits and future plans. And the group finished it off with the famous Swahili song � Nime Kombo Lewa, to prove their continental prowess. (Watch video on �Alabaster Box Gh� on Facebook)
In the interview with Sophie, Samuel recalled that year�s back, the group had represented West Africa in two major Commonwealth events � The Commonwealth People�s Festival in Brisbane, Australia and also at the Commonwealth Day Faith Observance at the Westminster Abbey in London, in front of Her Majesty the Queen of England.
Samuel said the group now plans to tour Africa after several visits to the UK and the USA.
He also hinted that on their return, the group would launch their third and new album with the title track �Level don Change�, which is a song sung in pidgin English and carries a message that God is the one who brings ordinary people greatness.
The ten-track album also has an acappella version of Mary Ghansah�s �Yen Agya owor soro�, couched from the biblical �the Lord�s Prayer�. The song featured Ghana�s gospel music crooner Cwesi Oteng.
The album also has another Swahili song �Hakuna Waku Fanana Yesu� (no one like Jesus), an acappella version of Noble Nketia�s �Bebree�, �The Grace�, and others.
The group has been on the quiet since the launch of its second album (Unto the King) in 2004 but Samuel assured fans �we never disbanded and we are coming back with a bang on the back of the Level don Change album.�
�The title track �Level don Change� is already is hit across churches in London and we have no doubt it will make waves in Ghana and in the rest of the world,� Sammy said.
Alabaster Box is expected back in Ghana later this month.
