The 2012 presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo has suggested that nothing would bar him from voting in Saturday�s delegates� conference of the party.
Nana Akufo-Addo was indirectly reacting to reports that Mr Paul Afoko, a National Chairman aspirant of the NPP, has demanded in an April 7, 2014 letter to the party that Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia be excluded from voting at the congress.
Mr Afoko has since denied reports suggesting he made that demand.
Nana Akufo-Addo arrived in Tamale on Thursday to a rapturous welcome by hundreds of party supporters at the airport.
He was accompanied by his vice-presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Freddy Blay, Ayawaso Central MP Henry Quartey, and former Greater Accra Region Minister Sheikh I.C Quaye. Shortly after his arrival in Tamale, Nana Akufo-Addo declared his intention to vote in an interview with Joy News� Elton John Brobbey.
�I am on the list [of voters],� the 2012 presidential candidate briefly responded when asked if he will vote. He also expects the party to have a good conference on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Mr. Paul Afoko says some elements within the party have leaked his confidential letter asking that some concerns be addressed before voting.
At a press conference in Bolgatanga, Upper East region on Thursday morning, he denied asking the party not to allow Akufo-Addo, Dr Bawumia and former President Kufuor to vote on Saturday.
�They are telling lies, these are a pack of lies,� he stressed.
He said he is aware that the party�s constitution gives voting right to members of its national council of which the hree are members, so �they have the right to vote�.
Mr Afoko suspects the directors of the party who are allowed to attend National Executive Committee meetings as non-voting members are up to some mischief.
He said by the party�s constitution, these directors are not supposed to vote at the congress but their names have been smuggled into the list of voters.
According to Mr. Afoko, he wrote the letter to the elections committee of the NPP, highlighting some issues that need to be addressed before the conference on Saturday, but a portion of the letter was picked and given a spin.
