Tema Youth Coach Owusu Advocates Change In Division One League Format

The disappointed Tema Youth coach is calling on the Ghana FA to reconsider the format in the Ghanaian second-tier. Tema Youth coach Prince Owusu is advocating a change in the Division One league format. The Ghanaian second-tier is made up of over 40 teams grouped into six zones. The two placed teams are drawn in three groups of four with the winner in each group qualifying straight to the Premier League. Over the years, the promotion play-offs have never been devoid of issues of poor officiating and crowd violence. The recent development happened just last week as Tema Youth walked off the pitch several times in their 1-2 defeat to Great Olympics due to terrible officiating. Owusu believes the time has come for the Ghana FA to consider a straight league format. The format should be changed, because poor officiating and mafia dominate the play-offs as a result of desperation," he told Accra-based Joy FM. All over the world, the second tiers are played in a league format, and the qualified teams gain straight promotions, why cant we do that here? Tema Youth failed to make a return to the top-flight after losing their final play-off match against Accra Great Olympics.
