Ghana Football Will Be Doomed If Local Players Do Not Make World Cup Squad - Sam Johnson

Ex-Black Stars defender Sam Johnson has predicted doom for Ghanas domestic league if local players do not make world cup squad. According to him the local league will be dead if local players are not selected to make the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. According to the former Ghana left back, local players should be given the opportunity to play at a big stage such as the World Cup to enable them stay in the domestic league. In an interview with Accra based radio station Montie FM, the former national star said local players will continue to be in a haste to ply their trade outside the country since only foreign based players are being invited into the national team. For so many years now there is no local player in the squad. We went for the CHAN tournament and we saw some of the boys are okay, and if they cant get into the senior national team, thus the real national team then what is the development we are talking about. At least there should be two players included, he said. Why dont we give a local player a chance into the squad? Some people are playing second division, some are injured, and some are not even getting playing time at their clubs. And somebody is here playing regularly. So they should stop saying Ghana football has developed. If they dont do that it is going to kill Ghana football because everybody will try to leave since they will realize they will never be invited to the national team. So they will go away and it will kill Ghana football, he added. There have been massive calls from Ghanaian pundits to include locally based players in the black stars squad to Brazil with names like; Kwabena Adusei, Abeiku Ainooson, Nuru Sulley and goalkeeper Stephen Adams being on the lips of many Ghanaian soccer fans. Black Stars head coach Kwasi Appiah is expected to name a 30-man provisional squad on May 13.
