Kwadwo Asamoah: Portugal Blessed To Have Cristiano Ronaldo

The Juventus midfielder says he is aware of the threats the Real Madrid star striker can pose to the Black Stars at Brazil 2014, but the Ghanaians are ready for battle. Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has pointed out that World Cup opponents Portugal are lucky to have technically gifted players in their camp. The Juventus star said that comes as an added advantage to A Selecao, who also have the current worlds best player in their setup. However, he insisted the Black Stars are unfazed. Portugal are blessed with technically gifted players and a true match-winner in Cristiano Ronaldo, the 25-year-old Ghana international told Reuters. Asamoah, who will be making his second appearance at the Mundial, stressed that the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists have put their disappointing exit from the last edition behind them. Were confident that we'll be able to give a good account of ourselves. Were in a tough group, there's no denying that, but we go into the competition following a strong qualifying campaign in which we won five out of six games, he added. Ghana have been paired in the same group with the USA, Germany and Portugal. Asamoah, who helped Juventus to win the Serie A title this season, noted that the four-time African champions are aware of the threat their opponents can pose and are poised for battle. It's our third consecutive appearance in the World Cup finals, we hope to have a long run and we'll be doing all we possibly can to make that happen. I think you know what you're going to get from Germany... strong, well organised yet skilful opponents, who have a rich history in international tournaments. They're a different prospect under (German coach) Juergen Klinsmann, so we'll have to be on our guard, Asamoah added. If you enter any competition your ambition has to be to win it, and to do so you need to face strong teams at some stage. We have shown in the past that we can perform when others may have written us off - and we're confident we can do that again.
