Ghana has been promoted from the status of deputy member to Regular or Titular member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) together with Kenya, Sudan, Algeria, Angola and Zimbabwe.
The elevation of Ghana to Regular or Titular status provides Ghana with voting rights on decisions that will be taken during ILO conferences. Ghana was elevated at the Special Session of the Labour and Social Affairs Commission (LSAC) of the African Union Held in Windhoek, Namibia 23rd To 25th April, 2014
The Special Session of the Labour and Social Affairs Commission (LSAC) was held in preparation for the Extra-ordinary Summit on Employment and Poverty Eradication scheduled for Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on 6th and 7th September, 2014.
It was attended by Ministers of Employment/Labour in Africa and the Social Partners (organized Labour and Employers).
Recommendations made at the conference included the following:-
(i) The need to make educational institutions, workplaces and vehicles easily accessible to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in terms of physical infrastructure and equipment.
(ii) The need to develop synergy among principal actors towards ensuring adequate protection of migrants� rights;
(iii) The need for Ministers of Labour to meet annually in April to prepare for the annual International Labour Conference (ILC) in May/June in Geneva
Switzerland.
(iv) The need to provide member states with copies of the draft �African Union Agenda 2063� to enable them conduct national consultations with a view to making inputs into the document.
The meeting endorsed Zimbabwe as the next Co-ordinator of the African group in Geneva.
