Committee To Probe Black Stars Brazil 2014 Campaign Prez Mahama

President John Mahama has indicated a committee will be set up to probe Ghanas disastrous Brazil 2014 campaign, which ended Thursday when the Black Stars were pipped 2:1 by Portugal. The country went silent immediately after the game in Brasilia following an own goal by John Boye and a game winner by the limping Cristiano Ronaldo as against Asamoah Gyans earlier equaliser for the Black Stars. In the words of President Mahama, all of us are heart-broken that the Black Stars are out of the tournament for which we had a lot of hope in their ability to honour the country. The president was speaking during an interview he granted journalists in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, shortly after the Black Stars match against Portugal in the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil. He is in Malabo to attend the 23rd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union. The probe, according to the President, will span the teams preparation, build-up to the tournament and the actual participation to ensure that all wrongs are fixed immediately. I think when we come back we must look at the team again, often you get to a junction where you have a new breed of players coming up and you have senior players and you try to weld them together. Sometimes the welding leads to a very great success but sometimes too it leads to a few problems and so we need to look at the team as a whole and eh, I guess when the A comes we need to set up a kind of committee to look at the full system of what happened in Brazil 2014. Right from the preparation to the build-up to the World Cup, to when they went to Brazil, to what happened in Brazil until they got back. We need to do a whole post-mortem and based on that post-mortem, we would be led to make some corrections of things that went wrong and rebuild the team so that Ghana continues to command the respect that it has in world football. According to President Mahama, while the whole nation was behind the team and the players did their best, we were unlucky, explaining that football demands a lot of hard work, discipline, training and good luck. Luck was not on our side today, he said, adding the players did their best. He said having played so well against Germany, we expected the Black Stars to repeat that performance but unfortunately, that was not to be. I urge the nation to take heart and to let us look at everything that has happened to see if we could have done better and see how we can do better in the future. Let us let the team come back Lets rebuild, let us do a post-mortem, see what went wrong,, see what we could have done better, and fix it. And Im sure that even though we didnt win this world cup, there will be other world cups for Ghana and Im certain and I believe and the nation should stand behind our Stars and believe that the Stars who played the most exciting match in the world cup against Germany, we could have gone on but unfortunately we didnt and that in future we will be able to make it better. The Black Stars suffered two defeats, first to the USA in their opening group encounter, and then against Portugal, except for 2:2 pulsating draw against Germany.
