Silverbird And Kumawood Confusion

Together we stand, divided we fall should be the only message the movie industry players should be spreading among themselves because, it is clear that despite efforts to save the movie industry from collapse, nothing seems to be working positively. Currently, there is no denying the fact that people in the movie industry are calling for their own heads, as it is clear they believe their actions have brought the movie industry to its current state of suffering and rejection. Unfortunately, the people are playing the game of average minds and with average mind, I mean the game of pushing blame from one person to the other. That is where the case becomes hard to understand and to resolve. Whilst members in the Film Producers Association are blaming the television stations for worsening their plights, the television stations are also challenging the producers to do their things right through better negotiation and looking for different marketing approach. Take it or leave it, the relationship between the film producers and television station owners is not the best in recent times. Socrates Sarfo is one person who believes that the problems facing the movie industry is strictly hinged on leadership deficiency and that if leaders of the Film producers association will do their things well, the problems in the movie industry will be reduced to zero. Whether the current FIPAG administration will accept they are doing so many things wrong is the problem here because, they also feel that they have the master plan and that very soon, things will fall in their right places. The latest information gathered from the Golden Tulip hotel has it that movies from Kumawood (Akan movies) can`t be shown at any of the Silverbird Cinema`s because their quality will not permit that. This was made public during the Women in Film Making Forum which saw some women in the movie industry coming together to deliberate on issues bothering the movie industry. It was during the discussion, that an issue was raised about why Kumawood movies which seem to be the cash cow of the movie industry is not being given any attention like showing the movies at the Silver Bird cinemas through premieres. In the middle of the discussion, the marketing manager of Silver Bird cinema told the board that they are not showing Kumawood movies because they don't meet the quality and standards required by the managers of the cinema. It is not as if we don't want to show any movies produced locally at the cinema. We have movies from other producers being premiered at our cinema`s but most of the Akan movies have lower quality and are sub standard, that is our issue with those movies. If they can upgrade their movies, I am sure we will be glad to show Akan movies in our cinemas because we also want to contribute our quota to the movie industry the marketing manager whose name was not readily known at the forum stated.
