Current Financial Crunch Making NDC Unpopular Alabi

The 2012 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Campaign co-ordinator for the Krowor Constituency in Accra, Mr Daniel Alabi, has said the current financial crunch is making the ruling NDC government unpopular. He has, therefore, urged the governments economic management team to come up with pragmatic measures to rescue the economy from further decline. That, he said, was crucial to restoring confidence to the government and the NDC. Mr Alabi told the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday that although the economic challenges could not be blamed wholly on the NDC government, the management of the economy was now in the hands of the NDC government. Therefore, he said: "It will be better if things are shaped well, so that we can be in the lead." Ghana's economy is currently facing some challenges, including the falling value of the cedi and rising inflation. As a result, labour unions and other groups have staged demonstrations to protest against the difficult economic situation. Temporary challenges Mr Alabi, who is aspiring to be the NDC chairman for the Krowor Constituency, said he believed the economic challenges facing the country were temporary. In his view, the NDC had a track record of rescuing Ghana's economy anytime it faced challenges. For instance, he said, former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Evans Atta Mills took bold measures to grow the country's economy in the face of challenges. Mr Alabi said President John Dramani Mahama also had the capacity to come up with measures to overcome the interim economic challenges facing the country. "Honestly, President Mahama has come out to say that things are going to be well," he said. Staying calm Mr Alabi urged all Ghanaians, especially NDC members, to have faith in the government because President Mahama and his team were capable of overcoming the current economic challenges. "The NDC is a party that is always looking at the interest of the people," he said. Mission Mr Alabi indicated that when given the mandate as the NDC Chairman for the Krowor Constituency at the August 29, 2014 constituency election, he would create an education fund and a health fund to support needy students and patients in the constituency. He would also develop the skills of women and create jobs for the youth in the area. Mr Alabi, who is popularly known at Nungua as Blowman, said he would also work with his team to secure a permanent office for the NDC in the constituency. Currently, the NDC is conducting ward elections. The ward executive members will constitute the delegates for the election of executive members at the various constituencies.
