John Boadu Chides EC Over The Ongoing Voters Registration Exercise

The national organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has downplayed the importance of the voters registration exercise which commenced nationwide yesterday. In an interview with Today, the NPP National Organizer said it is a shame that a country like Ghana cannot boast of a proper voters register. It is embarrassing for Ghanaians to always be changing information on our electoral system he said. I bet you the exercise will not provide full results, he added. However, he was quick to say that the NPP will not joke with it so as to ensure that the proper thing is done. The outspoken NPP National Organizer alleged that somewhere in the Volta Region, registration officers were accepting and registering people with National Democratic Congress (NDC) identification cards which according to him are prohibited by the laws of this country. Mr. Boadu said: I believe the Electoral Commission (EC) itself is not confident in the register. This, he said is the more reason why the EC cannot disclose the number of people expected to be captured by the exercise. He stated however that the EC has given a provisional estimate of persons to be registered as 2 million.
