Former NDC Chairman Salutes Grass-Roots Supporters

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Abdallah Ahmed Abdallah, has advised delegates of the partys upcoming constituency, regional and national executive congress to elect leaders who are committed to the party. He also called on prospective candidates to be concerned about the welfare of party members and supporters, especially those at the grass roots. Alhaji Abdallah, popularly known as "Alhaji PMC, who gave the advice during an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday, called on delegates to elect qualified, dedicated and committed people who had the heart to resolve issues that had the tendency to destroy the party. "Elections are won at the constituency levels," he said. Alhaji Abdallah, who is a former Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NDC, said the partys national executive should be transformed into an advisory body to take decisions that were in the interest of members of the party and not decisions that encroached on the rights of supporters. He said party executive members should focus on grass-roots supporters, who are the party's strongest mobilisation base at the ward, branch and constituency levels. "Delegates should elect leaders who are accessible, committed and dedicated and can be contacted at any time." Alhaji Abdallah said the upcoming congress of the party should be used to reconcile the partys members and not as a destructive weapon. He said gifts presented to delegates by candidates to influence them to vote for them should be taken, but delegates should make wise decisions that would put the party first and not the interests of individuals. Alhaji Abdallah called on members and supporters of the party to desist from making statements that had the tendency to disunite the party. He noted that the imposition of municipal and district chief executives as parliamentary candidates on the electorate should be discouraged in party circles. "I salute supporters at the grass roots for their hard work, selflessness, sacrifices and commitment in working for the party," he said
