The Head of the Human Security Department of the National Security Secretariat, Brig. Gen. Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (rtd), says seeking a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will not inure to the benefit of Ghanaians. The former Military officer �cannot understand why we have to go to IMF for bailout� and believes the panacea to our present economic challenges is hardwork, the willingness to do away with egotistical tendencies and preparedness to die a little for the country of one�s birth. To him, �going to IMF will not work for us but what will work for us is to individually pledge an allegiance to help with our substance to develop the country as I have single-handedly done for some schools in the country.� Expressing his disappointment in Ghanaians for their lack of selflessness, dedication and commitment to the development of the country on Okay Fm�s �Adeakye Abia� Morning Show, he said it is time for Ghanaians to collectively decide to work in their own small way to make a change for the betterment of the nation for the sake of future generation and not seeking assistance from the IMF for bailout to stabilize the economy. �We should come up with a policy where we can grow locally and depend on it for our source of living without relying on imported goods and food stuffs. If we don�t do that, the country will not progress; we should strive to do something new and different to assist our country�.we should stop the selfishness and be selfless in building the nation. We are in this country and we import almost everything�..I don�t understand why we have to go to IMF for bailout; why are we in this country? We should be willing to sacrifice and work for the betterment of the nation for the sake of our children. Going to IMF will not work for us but what will work for us is to individually pledge an allegiance to help with our substance to develop the country as I have single-handedly done for some schools in the country. The Cedi is falling because we are not working in this country to support our currency�.President Mahama is not God to work miraculously to change the economic situation if we as a nation don�t work to boost the economy. Everybody wants to steal from the country but they are not prepared to help it to grow and this is what is killing our country�, he opined. Brig. Gen. Mensah was recently in the news for all the wrong reasons when at the inauguration of a nine-classroom block he built for O�reilly Senior High School in Accra, asked striking workers at the time, to leave the country if the �kitchen is too hot� for them.
