Tumultous Welcome For Akufo-Addo At P.V Obeng's Funeral

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo became the centre of massive attention for mourners and well-wishers present at the final funeral rites of the late Paul Victor Obeng, held on Saturday, August 16, at Adansi Akrokerri in the Ashanti Region. Upon arrival, word quickly filtered through the funeral grounds and within a matter of seconds, the majority of mourners and residents of Akrokerri swarmed around the vehicles carrying Nana Akufo-Addo and his team. The crowd grew thicker after the Master of Ceremony announced the arrival of Nana Akufo-Addo, with even more people deserting the grounds and rushing to catch a glimpse of him. With shouts of "Nana oo Nana", "Nana our next President" and "No Nana No Vote", security personnel present had a hectic time leading Nana Akufo-Addo through the crowd to pay his respects to the family, Chiefs and mourners present, with the crowd singing and following him as he went round. As Nana Akufo-Addo proceeded to pay his respects, traditional drummers and the traditional choral groups present at the funeral grounds serenaded mourners with songs composed specially for Nana Addo, much to the delight of the gathering. Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied by his running mate in the 2008 and 2012 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Chairman Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi; Hon. Daniel Kingsley Atta-Boafo, MP for Fomena; Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, MP for Kwadaso; Hon. Isaac Asiamah, MP for Atwima Mponua; Hon. Edward Ennin, MP for Obuasi East; Hon. K.T Hammond, MP for Adansi Asokwa; and Chairman of the Fomena constituency, Mr. Kwasi Nti. Present at the funeral grounds were leading members of the NDC, the Ahwoi brothers (Ato, Kwesi and Kwamena), Nana Ato Dadzie, Kofi Totobi Quakyi, Daniel Ohene Agyekum, George Aboagye, National Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Paul Afoko; NPP General Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyepong; and NPP presidential hopeful, Mr. Alan Kyerematen, amongst others.
