Two NPP Chairmen Condemn Agyapongs Actions

The Northern and Upper East Regional chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have condemned Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, General Secretary of the Party, for taking a unilateral decision by asking Mr Perry Okudzeto, Acting Director of Communication, to proceed on leave. Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu and Mr Adam Akalibila Mahama, Northern and Upper East Regional chairmen respectively have appealed to Mr Agyapong to rescind the decision to promote unity and the forward movement of the party to ensure victory for the NPP in 2016. Mr Naabu, who was addressing a press conference in Tamale, said the General Secretary had no mandate to sack or appoint any individual working for the party. He said the actions of Mr Agyapong had created disunity and confusion and this would affect the impending special congress of the party, adding that building the structures of the party at all levels should be the paramount priority of the newly elected executives. Mr Naabu suggested the need for the appointment of deputy national executives to complement the work of the party instead of being vindictive. He said NPP originated from the northern part of Ghana and therefore regional executives from those areas would not allow the party to be disintegrated through the actions of the General Secretary and appealed for calm within the NPP. Mr Mahama described the actions of Mr Agyapong as very disappointing since it was done without the collective consultation. He said the northern parts of the country held the key to the success of the NPP and appealed to the General Secretary to listen to their advice and rescind the decision.
