Chief Says Education Is Key To Sustainable Livelihood

The Paramount Chief of Techiman, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, has reiterated that education was the best legacy for a sustainable livelihood for the youth. He therefore urged chiefs in the traditional area to educate the youth on the need to pursue education holistically since that had proved over the years as a unique platform to build one�s social and economic life successfully. Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw was speaking at Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo to climax this year�s celebration of their annual �Fofie Yam Festival� that coincided with the 10th anniversary of his reign as the 40th occupant of the Ohene Ameyaw stool of the Bono Techiman State. The joint celebration was under the theme �Strengthening the partnership between Techiman Traditional Authority and all stakeholders to utilize opportunities for Development�. He said he could not spearhead the holistic development of Techiman without the loyal and total support of the divisional chiefs and their subjects because �the people are the bedrock of my reign and the Chieftaincy institution in general�. The Paramount Chief, a banker by profession, said with the support of his people, he had completed projects in education and health. Nana Owusu Gyare II, the Akwamuhene of Techiman, told newsmen that the festival was also an occasion to remember their ancestors by traditionally feeding them with mashed and pounded yam. He said agriculturally the festival was observed to ensure seed multiplication of yam for the ensuing farming season, adding it was also an occasion to demonstrate loyalty of the divisional chiefs and their subjects to the Paramount Chief and the Ohene Ameyaw stool.
