Former Captain of the Black Stars, Stephen �Tornado� Appiah, has been named the face of advocacy campaign for the promotion and adoption of Improved Cook stoves in Ghana to reduce heart-related diseases mainly amongst our women. According to the Global Alliance for Clean Stoves, the Ex-Ghana Captain has been exemplary on and off the football field and has been a great source of inspiration to a cross section of the youth in Ghana. It is therefore in order for Global Alliance for Clean Cook stoves to partner Stephen Appiah in helping to drive the need to use clean energies in the preparation of food. The iconic former Black Stars captain was presented to the Ghanaian media at the Best Western Hotel in Accra on Tuesday and in his acceptance speech pledged to work assiduously to help explain the dangers associated with some of the fuels used in cooking in Ghana. ��I grew up in Chorkor and I saw how these fish mongers smoked their fishes using firewood. They were always engulfed by the smoke but unaware of the dangers that could pose to their health. I would want make myself available as and when am needed by Global Alliance for Clean Cook stoves,� he said. Statistics show that 84% of households rely on solid fuels such as wood and charcoal for cooking and that accounts for about 13,400 deaths each year, from household air pollution. However, Appiah, who is widely-respected for his selfless and immense contribution to Ghana football, will use his image to influence the Ghanaian society on the need for improved cooking.
