Ken Agyapong: World Cup Commission Is A Waste Of Time

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has described as waste the commission of enquiry established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Black Stars' abysmal performance in the Brazil 2014 World Cup tournament. The anti-graft campaigner says his conviction is based on his belief that President Mahama lacks the courage to prosecute former Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, who also led his 2012 election campaign, if he is found liable. My reason for saying so is that whatever is being revealed at the commission would end nowhere [because] President Mahama will not get the courage to punish anybody in his government for corruptionlet alone his former campaign managerhe simply cant do it, he said on Ark fm in Sunyani. The Dzamefe Commission was set up by the President following the huge controversy that dogged Ghana's participation in the 2014 World Cup tournament. Revelations at the Commission hearing, the NPP legislator added, give further credence to the reports of deep seated corruption in the Mahama government, including the unlawful payment of monies to Alfred Woyome, Subah Info-solutions and service providers under GYEEDA. He described the revelations as a tip of the iceberg. Documents covering these underhand deals, which were offered him by people who never liked such high levels of corruption, he said, abound in his home and this convinces him that the alleged corruption would be very difficult to uproot. In every ministry, theres someone thats disturbed by the level of corruption and these people approach me with the documents because they trust I can help deal with them, he indicated.
