Ghana�s boxing legend Prof. Barima "Zoomzoom" Azumah Nelson has been assigned by the Youth and Sports Minister to play a major role to face-lift boxing in Ghana. According to Hon. Mahama Ayariga, boxing which has been branded as a �lesser known sport� must be redecorated to attract the youth. He however urged the three-time world champion in his new role to unearth new talent to represent Ghana in future boxing competitions. �I hope his role will help activate massive interest in the sports and grow more talents for Ghana,� he said. Described as the greatest African boxer ever, the legend will work with other partners to invigorate Boxing in Ghana. Born 19 July 1958, Azumah Nelson had a stellar amateur career, competing at the 1978 Commonwealth Games where he won a gold medal in the Featherweight class, and compiling an Amateur Record of 50-2. Nelson's professional boxing debut, in 1979, did not generate much attention, except in Ghana, where he was known because of his family ties. Internationally, Nelson lacked the recognition for such an event to be given its due importance. With the years, however, all of that changed because he garnered worldwide fame as a boxer.
