FPSO Saga: Ghana Must Cease This Habit Of Awarding Contracts To Inexperienced Whites

Some workers of MODEC Ghana Limited, the company that operates and manages the countrys oil production platform, the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, have begun a sit-down strike to demand for better conditions of service. It is on this note that the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa North, Hon. Kwabena Amankwah Asiamah, has urged the Ghanaian workers to quit their jobs if their handlers arent ready to better their salaries. He claims such working conditions dont motivate a black skinned person in the midst of whites. Such things make the black man think the white is always superior as a black skinned person, when you hear of such cases it makes you feel indignant and you wonder if comfort was created for only the whites. Despite working in the same environment and rendering services that calls for higher payment, indigenous workers receive salaries between GH2,500 and GH3,000 a month, while their expatriate counterparts took home an average of between $5,000 and $10,000. But Hon. Kwabena Amankwah Asiamah claims that in countries like Libya and Saudi Arabia, people who work in the oil industry dont get cheated because of their race. They are all paid well depending on the duty assigned to them. Neither the black or white man gets cheated. Workers the oil rig face equal risks, he said.
