Revealed: Parliament Not Paid Light Bills For 2 Years

Deputy Public Affairs Director of Parliament, Kate Addo, has confirmed that Parliament has for the past two years, not paid electricity bills. Madam Addo said on Adom fm's Super Weekend News Saturday that that could be a reason for the threat to disconnect power to the house of the legislature. Media reports claimed that the legislative house of the Republic of Ghana was almost hit with power disconnection for owing ECG an amount of GHC 1 million over the past 24 months. The report further stated that it took the intervention of some top officials of the House to plead for unspecified grace period for the settlement of their accumulated bills before the disappointed staff of the company submitted to their plead. But Madam Addo who admitted that her outfit indeed owes ECG noted that claimed Parliament alone did not contribute to the said amount. There are other accommodations in the facility that uses the same metre and so we have asked ECG to provide us with our own bill. We will be billed according to what we use in our House and not what others are also using she insisted on Adom FMs Midday News Saturday. She indicated that the House is waiting for their original amount as far as the usage of electricity is concerned.
