Consumers of electricity will be heaving a sigh of relief shortly as the Finance Ministry has promised of major gas supply by first quarter of next year. Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", the Deputy Finance Minister, Ato Forson disclosed that by completion of the Aboadze Gas and Kpong Gas Plants, the country will now produce gas in major quantities and this will lessen the nation's dependence on Nigeria for gas. According to him, by the end of the 2014 fiscal year, additional 220 megawatts would be added to the already 110 megawatts of electricity supply to the communities in the country. This he believed will help alleviate the energy burden on Ghanaians and resolve the incessant power cuts that have since characterized the nation. He added that Ghanas gas production from the jubilee field will have capacity to fuel the Plants to produce adequate gas and generate power to supply the nation with electricity. In his estimation, the 2015 budget statement will help address the energy situation in Ghana.
