Ghana�s embarrassing showing at the 2014 world cup, coupled with seeming financial malfeasance, seem to have left a scar on the former Chief Executive of the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) Fund, Kojo Adu Asare, but he has rejected claims that he enriched himself with the money entrusted in his care. Mr. Adu Asare was in charge of ensuring that Ghanaian supporters who were airlifted to Brazil, lived comfortably but revelations after the tournament at the Dzamefe Commission, showed otherwise. Defending himself on the Point Blank segment on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Adu Asare insisted, �I am a clean man, I didn�t come into politics to steal money because I am a business man and I know where to make money. When I was a kid, I sold banana and carried them through the Malata market�I learnt how to raise money,� why should I grow up to this point, to steal money.� Adu Asare was CEO of YES until he was asked to revert to his post as presidential staffer.He was later stripped of his position as head of YES. Mr. Adu Asare clarified that his reassignment was not as a result of what others deem as his incompetence, saying, �I wonder what most Ghanaians listen to because if people assume that whatever happened at the Commission was what brought about my exit from YES. I think its funny because Kojo Adu Asare was a member of a team and was engaged to shortlist three travel agencies to deliver services for the Ministry and that was my job� In September, the former MP for Adenta broke down and wept before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry. The incident according to him was because after all the effort he put into ensuring Ghana�s participation will turn out positive, Ghanaians did not seem to appreciate it. �The only thing that took me to the Commission was that somebody had written a petition that our report showed that when he made a presentation to us we applauded the company and yet he did not find space in the last three names that we short-listed and so I was to come to explain what happened.� He also downplayed allegations that he contributed to the Black Stars� poor outing at the 2014 World Tournament saying, �I don�t play football, I didn�t ask Ronaldo to throw the ball to score us, I did not do that.��The Minister of Youth and Sports , as for him, he had oversight responsibility for every other thing that happened within the Sports Ministry. Some of us did not see where the players were playing because those places were secluded for officials and players,� he added. Adu Asare is currently vying for to become a Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and has encouraged members of the party to overlook the brouhaha surrounding his involvement in the World Cup and see the good qualities he is bringing on the table. He assured them he will be a good leader who will help retain the NDC in power when the country goes to the polls in 2016.
