FDA Sounds Alarm On Fake Bio-Oil

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has cautioned the general public on the presence of fake Bio-oil on the Ghanaian market. Bio-oil, is a cosmetic product indicated for improving the appearance of scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, ageing and dehydrated skin. A statement issued last Friday by the FDA boss, Hudu Mogtari, revealed that the original Bio-oil, bears the manufacturers location address on the outer package and a NAFDAC registration number. The fake ones, however, have no NAFDAC registration number, instead, they bear the manufacturers postal address. The information provided on the outer package of the original is in English, French and Portuguese, but the fake ones, have their information written in English only. Also, the original Bio-oil, has an orange color, while the fake ones have a color which appears pinkish and the content lighter than the original. The original Bio-oil, is imported and distributed in Ghana by Ernest Chemist Ltd. The general public, especially shops dealing in cosmetics are, therefore advised to ensure they get their supplies from right sources, so as to avoid selling fake products. Additionally, the general public is being assured of FDAs readiness to ensure public health and safety at all times, and, therefore appeals to the general public to give any information on persons suspected to be in any practice that has the possibility of endangering public health and safety through any of the following contacts: 0244337235, 0208204968 or 0244571563.
