HFC promises support for farmers

HFC Bank has pledged to throw more support to farmers to ensure food sufficiency for both domestic and external consumption. "We are ready to educate and encourage farmers with soft loans to continue with their activities to achieve high food production in the coming years," Mr Kwabena Sarfo Mainu, Business Manager of the Bank said. Talking to Ghana News Agency at the sidelines of the 2014 National Farmers Day at Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western Region, he said without farmers, living will be difficult as we all feed. He said farmers spend a lot of money during the farming season and sometimes they are not able to recoup their monies, and therefore supporting them would be a step in the right direction. Mr Mainu said cocoa farmers over the years have spent so much at the nursery levels to harvesting and supporting them would guard them against the lean season. He said the bank is encouraging farmers to make maximum use of the Akuafo cheques to safeguard them against the attacks of armed robbers. "Farmers over the years have been the source of our survival and we will therefore keep supporting them to increase production levels," he said.
