Mahamas Government Is Insensitive (AUDIO)

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lashed out at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for not being sensitive to the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian. A press statement signed by Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the NPP indicates that Ghanaians deserve some relief from the current hardship they are experiencing, especially as the price of oil and the exchange rate have reduced. There is no doubt that the cost of living in recent times has been unbearable for the vast majority of Ghanaians, a direct result of the calamitous fall in the value of the cedi over the last three years and the very high increases in the prices of water, electricity, petrol and the rate of VAT. At GH15 a gallon of petrol in Ghana, oil was selling above $100 a barrel, and the dollar was trading at an average of GH3.80. Since then, oil has fallen to about $60 a barrel, and the dollar is trading at an average of GH3.20. By these price movements, petrol should be selling around GH13 a gallon. The current price of about GH17 a gallon is therefore highly extortionate and inconsiderate of the hardships Ghanaians are going through, the statement observed. Speaking in an interview on PEACE FM morning show, Kokrokoo, Nana Akomea mentioned that we all prayed and God heard our cry and now petroleum products have reduced however, the fact that the ruling NDC administration is not reducing petroleum prices is a mark of insensitivity. The cedi is now doing well, yet government has not reduced any prices is this fair? Does it show sympathy to the difficult times Ghanaians are facing? he asked. Click the audio to listen to the full interview on PEACE FM
