NDC Member Withdraws Case Against Kofi Adams

A member of the NDC, Yaw Osei Gyamfi, who filed a suit challenging the eligibility of Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams to contest the National Organiser position in the party's upcoming elections, has withdrawn the case. The applicant had attempted to block Kofi Adams from contesting the elections and subsequently filed a suit at an Accra High Court. According to him, Kofi Adams is a suspended member of the NDC and therefore, cannot run for any position in the party. Lawyer for the plaintiff Bright Oppong Manu, had earlier said Adams breached certain portions of the party's constitution and thus not qualified to vie for a national executive position. The aspiring National Organiser was suspended by the party after a voice suspected to be his, was heard on a leaked tape saying he will do everything possible to prevent the late President Mills from securing the mandate of Ghanaians for a second term. Even though subsequently Kofi Adams was reinstated by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NDC, Osei Gyamfi felt Kofi Adams was not qualified to hold any position in the party and dragged him to court seeking an interpretation of the party's rules. However on Tuesday, 16th December, 2014, Yaw Osei Gyamfi appeared before the Court and indicated that he was no longer interested in pursuing the case. According to PEACE FM's Agya Kwabena who was present in court, he (Osei Gyamfi) gave no reasons for his decision. ...the applicant withdrew the case this morning without liberties to reapply, he reported. This means Kofi Adams can now go ahead and contest in Saturdays congress scheduled to take place in Kumasi.
