AIDs Commission Must Exercise Restraint In Approach Towards Joyce Dzidzor - Sammy Awuku

Sammy Awuku, the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asked the Ghana Aids Commission to exercise restraint in the Commission's approach towards Joyce Dzidzor Mensah over her recent claims. Speaking on Peace FM on Kokrokoo, though Sammy Awuku asserted that the claims by Miss Joyce Dzidzor Mensah, former HIV/AIDS Ambassador, may have indicted the Commission's AIDS campaign; it is however prudent that the Commission desist from responding to her until detailed introspection is done. Joyce Dzidzor shocked Ghanaians Monday morning when she revealed that she has never tested HIV positive. Until this sudden revelation, all and sundry within the country bought into her message that she once had an affair with an HIV/AIDS victim and had contracted the disease out of sexual intercourse. She has 2007 been the AIDS ambassador for the Commission, traversing almost all regions, churches and public places in the country; and beyond the shores of Ghana. Following her recent U-turn, the Ghana AIDS Commission also granted Peace FM an interview on News at 6 pm and insisted the Joyce Dzidzor is HIV positive. The Commission called the bluff of the AIDS ambassador, indicating that "it has a documented evidence of her HIV status at various Health centers she together with other ambassadors accessed treatment." It continued that in a statement released to the media that the Commission has terminated her contract since 2012. To Sammy Awuku, the Commission should not be in haste to reply Joyce because it may make a mistake and press certain buttons which should allowed in public. In his view, Joyce Dzidzor may have gathered some facts that may affect the Commission's relationship with its donors. So, "they should sit down, do serious introspection. They should put their cards on the table. They should investigate it well before they give their answers," he said.
