1,181 Candidates To Sit For Private BECE In February

Some 1,181 candidates are set to take part in the maiden edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates. The examinations will be held from February 16 to 20, 2015 at 11 centres in various regional capitals across the country. The Head of Public Affairs of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, says �all the necessary arrangements needed for the smooth take-off of the examination have been put in place.� �All the rules and regulations pertaining to BECE for school candidates will apply�, she said. Also, the age for first-time candidates have been reduced from 18 to 16 years to enable more candidates write the exam. Candidates can write any number of subjects, between one and nine, including English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and French. The registration fees for the resit candidates have been set at GHȻ77 for one subject, GHȻ87 for two subjects, GHȻ96 for three subjects and GHȻ105 for four or more. The use of continuous assessment marks would not be applicable in this instance as candidates would be marked over 100. Registration for the February examinations ended in December 2014.
