Winners from five countries -India, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana & Tanzania were selected and competed under the two categories that are Established Developer and Upcoming Developer. Leti Arts, developers of the app, Africas Legends, swept the global award in the Best Established Developer category. The app developer participated in the competition having won in the same category at the Ghana event, which was held last year. Another African app developer, Guide Rig from Kenya won the Start-up first award in the international competition. For their prize, Leti Arts will receive an all-expense paid trip to the 2015 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona as well as an opportunity to meet and interact with Vodafone Groups Senior Management team. Additionally, their app will be featured in Vodafones retail stores all over the world. In a short statement delivered by Eyram Tawiah at the head office of Vodafone Ghana, he stated that winning the competition was an amazing experience. He again explained that the feat he achieved was something that proves to the whole world that there are serious talents hidden in Africa that need to be given exposure. A delighted Eyram informed the gathering that after winning the award, he was personally informed by one of the judges that he won not because he developed an app but rather because of the vision he attached to it. The primary objective of the AppStar competition is to recognise and reward app developers in the mobile applications industry across the globe.
