Tourism Industry Needs Massive Private Investment

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has called for massive private sector investment in the tourism industry to ensure maximum economic impact on Ghanas development. Mrs Ofosu-Adjare made the call on Thursday at the Kintampo Waterfalls in the Brong-Ahafo Region to mark the end of a two-day familiarisation tour. She said tourist attractions like the waterfalls could be developed into a modern must go natural site scenery. The 230-foot waterfall is situated at a serene forest environment. Nana Effah Guakro, Chief of Kyeremankoma in the Kintampo Municipality, said transformation of the facility to meet international tourist sites standards is long overdue. Mrs Ofosu-Adjare also visited the Tanoboase Sacred Grove in the Techiman North District, where she said the Ministry would provide support to protect and maintain the place as natural eco-tourism site. Nana Adomako Acheampong, the right wing chief of Tanoboase explained that the Grove, situated in a 300-acre virgin forest was discovered by their ancestors in the 16th century. He said no part of it had ever been tilled because that is a taboo in the community. He said a major challenge in the maintenance of the forest is the activities of poachers who are disturbing the wildlife habitat.
