Appiah Savours Goal, Win

Striker Kwesi Appiah says if there is any moment that he will forever cherish in his football career, it will be his first goal for Ghana's Black Stars, as it did not only help the team beat Guinea but also saw them progress to the semi-finals of the 30th edition of the AFCON.

“It is too good to be true. Few months ago, I could only dream about it, now I'm living it and it will be the most cherished of all moments in my career,” Appiah, who was voted Man of the Match, told the Graphic Sports moments after the game.

He said while he had relished a starting role, he did not think it would end on such a high note for him, describing a feeling of excitement and anxiety when he was named in the starting line up.

"I had always relished to start a game, but when the list was called, I was quite overwhelmed, my nerves were calmed by Dede Ayew and captain Asamoah Gyan who said all would be well. I'm grateful for the chance and happier that it got off to a very good start.

"Now the jitters are gone and I look forward to more memorable times ahead. Even if I don't get to start again, this is a never to be forgotten moment, one to ginger me and not to make me swollen headed, because that could ruin everything," the 24-year-old striker said.

Every action of Appiah yesterday was reminiscent of the exploits of Junior Agogo, who also made his impression during AFCON 2008 in Ghana, and like Agogo who also was a surprise inclusion in the Stars' squad, Appiah looks forward to more times with the team, saying “the journey has just begun for me”.
