Wakaso Records 1500th Goals In AFCON History

Ghana midfielder, Mubarak Wakaso has set a tournament record with his goal against Equatorial Guinea in the semi-final match at the 30th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations at the Estadio de Malabo on Thursday.

     Wakaso's goal, his first in the tournament and Ghana's second on the day goes into the history books as 1,500th in the competition.

     It was also Ghana’s 120th goal in the history of the tournament since making her maiden appearance at the 1963 edition which Ghana hosted and won.

     Ghana is making her 20th Nations cup appearance with 49 wins, 16 draws and 22 losses.

     The Celtic midfielder, at his second successive competition for Ghana at the biannual gathering was Ghana’s top scorer and joint tournament top scorer with four goals in South Africa 2013 edition where Nigerian’s Emmanuel Emenike beat him to the golden boot award.
