Fire Extinguisher Explodes At KATH And Causes Stir

There was a momentary chaos at the Pediatric unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Monday morning after one of the fire extinguishers at the unit exploded.

Patients on admission and staff on duty at the ward reportedly took to their heels as the smoke from the blast filled the atmosphere, reports Starrfmonline.com

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr Kwame Frimpong told the Accra based radio station, Starr FM that the smoke scared the patients who shouted for help and created the wrong impression that the hospital was on fire.

But he said officers from the fire station located on the premises of the hospital managed to bring the situation under control in no time.

Two of the fear-gripped patients, said to have sustained minor injuries in their attempt to run to safety, are doing well. They were said to have knocked their legs into a bed. No major damage was caused by the incident.
