Black Stars Players To Pocket $25,000 Each

Even though they failed to lift the most prestigious trophy on the continent for the firth time, each player of the Black Stars squad is expected to pocket $25,000 for placing second.

Leading sponsor of Ghana’s Black Stars, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation [GNPC] will be paying the players with the whooping amount for their effort in Equatorial Guinea.

Information gathered by Peacefmonline.com indicates that, the amount is just to reward the gallant players and not part of the sponsorship package.

The Stars were beaten 9-8 on penalties by the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire after a barren yet grueling 120 minutes of football action.

They arrived in Ghana on Monday to a rapturous welcome by Black Stars supporters. They were met on arrival by the Vice President Papa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur who was full of praise for the exploits of the Stars.

However, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is also in talks with other cooperate institutions who are willing to reward the team.

Ghana were aiming for their first title since 1982 but history repeated itself as the only other Ivorian title came in 1992 when they edged Ghana, also on penalties after a goalless draw.

It was a long night in Bata and with 120 minutes of dazzling football played, the honours went to Ivory Coast.
