Ayariga FINALLY Discloses AFCON 2015 BUDGET...Says $5.8million Spent!!!

It has finally been made public.

The most sought after information regarding how much of the public's purse was expended on the Ghanaian contigent at the just-ended 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is now an open secret.

Sports Minister, Mr Mahama Ayariga, on Wednesday told Parliament that Ghana’s participation in the 2015 AFCON, cost the country about GH₵17.9million or US$8million.

According to him, GH₵ 17,919,392.70 was the sum of government’s commitment to the preparation and adventures of the Black Stars in the tournament. 

Giving a break down of the expenditure, he disclosed that US$932,740 was spent before going to Equitorial Guniea - where the tournament was held - along with GH₵3,242,580 on boarding, lodging, airfare and per diem in all the friendly matches before the tournament itself.

Hon Ayariga further revealed that during the tournament a total amount of US$608,640 was also spent on per diem allowances, boarding and lodging as well as other allowances for players and officials at the tournament.

An additional US$3,224,139 was on honoraria and bonuses for players and technical staff.

The Minister made it clear that compared to allowances and bonuses paid in the past, this was varied downwards by between 20 and 30 percent.

Members of Parliameny congratulated the national team for the role they played during the Afcon and asked Ghanaians to continue to support the team.
