The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has challenged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to come up with alternative solutions to the worsening energy situation in the country rather than their continues criticism of government
The governing party’s call on the opposition follows attacks on the government over its failure to tackle the incessant power cuts which have affected both business and domestic consumers.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, the National Organizer of the NDC, Kofi Adams said the NDC Government has put in stringent measures to address the energy crisis adding that “this unfortunate situation is being strongly addressed by the government and also supported by the party.”
He said they had observed speculations over some energy plants which had became dormant because of governments failure to buy fuel for them saying “there is non-available” while insisting that “what we need from our brothers in the NPP is to bring suggestions. If you ask them for alternatives they tell you they will not provide any alternative. Is that the way to go?”
He told the NPP that “being in opposition does not mean just oppose anything without providing alternatives.”
“What is their alternatives? What is the track record of the NPP when it comes to power generation? We do not want to go into history because we don’t believe in blaming people or name calling. When we had the crisis in 2007, we were given all kinds of dates to end the crisis including a date that doesn’t even exists. That 31st September we were going to end this crisis, this date does not exists.”
Mr. Adams also used the opportunity to dispel reports that the party is opposed to the recent shake up at the Flagstaff House which led to the exit of Presidential Secretary and Communication Director.
Kofi Adams said “the party is solidly behind his excellency the President in all his decisions that he takes. We support his team…for those who are working hard we will continue to support and encourage them. Where there is need to make any changes that need be, we will not hesitate to support that but at no point has the party taken any decision to distance itself from the president or the presidency because of continuous stay in office of one person or the other.”
