Falling In Love With His Friend's Girl

Woke up early in the morning at 6 am, got off bed, picked up his tooth brush, towel, soap and sponge and quickly dashed into the washroom to have a refreshing shower! Bathing amidst smiles; thoughts streaming through his mind, he obviously knew it was a string of one lady he was playing in mind.

Beautiful Sunday morning and getting ready for church service, he couldn't keep his mind off this one lady.

They have been friends for only God knows when, besties of course. He and she gel like fresh non-alcoholic champagne and ice cubes. They like each other. They simply cannot part each other's company. They can't part ways without him looking into her beautiful eyes and receiving a warm hug from her.

Like a melodious tune from the Titanic movie, beaming with smiles like Romeo and Juliet; he kept thinking and thinking till he could think no more.

George knew in his heart he had fallen deep or better still he was now diving in the pool of love. He was gushing out a deluge of care mixed with a tinge of heart pumping sounds as if his heart would jump out of the body in a split second.

Singing "I Need You To Survive" composed by Juanita Bynum, George quickly finished bathing and dressed up in the most whitish long-sleeve shirt coupled with a shiny black tie and three-piece suit to match his black trousers and mirror pair of shoes; as he hopped into a vehicle off to church service.

Who is George?

George is a smart guy, sharp and brainy. He graduated from a reputable University in Ghana with excellent grades to match his extraordinary character. Though not too handsome, you can’t simply deny the fact that he attracts a bevy of beautiful ladies around him everywhere and anywhere.

He is 28 years old. Born to a family of four, his mom and dad have not just been wonderful couple who have been married for over 30 years; they also are very lovely and wonderful parents supporting him in every endeavor of his life.

He is friendly yet reserved and introvert. He is a staunch Christian. Some of his friends compliment him for his selfless and caring nature. Others also do not show much liking for his annoying personality but George is one hell of a guy who cares little about the world around him but more about the people assigned in his life.

George is determined and hard as rock when he sets his mind to achieve a goal. That’s George, unpredictable predictable George.

George attends church at one of the biggest, largest and greatest churches in Ghana. His devotion to God earned him a position as Music Director and place in God’s heart as a beloved son to his Spiritual father and mentor in Christ.

Haven’t you had enough of George’s personality? I guess you have.

In church, George is loved by all and sundry due to his humorous and interesting fun-loving charismatic character. Everybody likes George and George likes everybody. Absolutely, not a perfect guy but moderately an honest one to have as friend or close enough as a boyfriend. Yet, George is single. Not that he can’t find a girl to love but just because he doesn’t want to be ready for any marriage or relationship ball game.

But how can George survive this one?

How can I get out of this? What’s this feeling? Is something wrong with me? Why do I feel this way? He asks himself.

In as much as George wants to treat her as mere friend or like they call it “Sister in Christ”; I bet you this Sister in Christ is too beautiful. George cannot get over her. There is a problem.

She is beautiful. She is fair. She is sexy. She is God-fearing and very spiritual. She is a virtuous woman, a marriage material. The problem is she is engaged to George’s own friend.

Yeah, they’re four good friends; George, his two friends and her. They’re like a cabal. They plot together, eat together, play together, laugh together, hang out together, stay together, watch movies and talk gospel together. George had no intention to fall in love with her during these days.

He however knew his other friend, named Samuel, loved the lady and so took the leap though not without the honourable help of George. George whispered words into her ears to accept Samuel when the lady’s mind was fixed at a point to reject him (Samuel).

Sammy, as he’s affectionately called, also attends the same church and is a mighty prayer warrior. He is also a jack of trades and master of all. Sammy loves her but the lady was confused as to whether to give in to his advances or flee like Joseph and Potiphar’s wife in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible.

Nevertheless, George convinced her to consider Sammy.

George wanted the best for his good friend, Sammy. It took lots of convincing and sugar-coated words to get her to reason with Sammy. This is not to say Sammy didn’t make any efforts of his own. He did everything possible as a man of integrity to woo and win her heart. She accepted his proposal and this made George very happy. His friend has finally found himself a rose flower.

Little did George know that he was head over heels in love with her?

Christie is a beautiful lady, so beautiful that even beautiful ones envy her beauty. She is fair. I must confess she is a woman to behold and a lady that cannot be watched upon once or twice without passing a “wow” comment. She is an Angel made and adorned with all the elements of beauty from the crown of her head to the soles of her feet. Wow!

The day George showed me her picture; I nearly slapped him for telling me such a lady ever truly existed in real life.

Her eyes are crystal clear. Her lips are sloppy and always ready for a warm kiss. Her teeth sparkle like diamonds and her hair so black that Brazilian hairs can’t compete. Her body is sweet-smelling like the myrrh that the Wise Men presented to baby Jesus in the manger.

Look, Christie always knew how beautiful she is but what she didn’t quite know was the value guys placed on her beauty.

Friday, 14th February, 2014; Valentine’s day, Sammy buckled up and dressed in blue long-sleeve shirt and a tie to match the colour of his trousers walked up to Christie and made a final toast.

Pulling out a ring, Sammy uttered the magic words; will you marry me? Silence! Close to 10 minutes, there was absolute silence that you could even hear the sound of a pin drop on the floor. There was suspense and one thing is Sammy popped out those words in front of his colleagues; George and Tony. Now, everyone’s eyes were fixed on Christie. What’s Christie thinking? Will she say Yes or No?

George nearly screamed out of his mind; “make no yawa, Christie” but for fear of the other friends knowing what he was thinking at the moment, kept his thoughts to himself. He started praying in his mind for Sammy.

“Lord, make this girl no brown my guy. Lord make her no do any yawa thing for here. I swear nanka what can come, can come. Chaley, if this girl refuses the ring; breaking news for radio and television!” – George kept praying hard and watching keenly.

Then, after some seconds, Christie nods her head but failed to utter any word; just nodded. Obviously, we all admitted that she had agreed to the proposal.

“Hip, hip, hip, hurraaaaaaaay!”– George shouted. “This calls for a toast.” – He continued.

Did George see something that no one including Sammy saw?

At this point, George had not advanced in his madness of love for Christie. Christie and George were too close and open that everyone in church knew the two together. Christie and George never concealed their affection for each other though Sammy had won her heart already.

To George, Christie is Sammy’s and Sammy’s only. There’s no way he could get any further deep with Christie. Even due to Sammy’s relationship with Christie, George had had to distance himself from her awhile and from the things they used to enjoy together.

George has no bad intention. All George feels for Christie is sisterly love and even now the sisterly love had increased without measure now that Sammy (George’s friend) had finally got Christie’s attention.

George and Christie’s brotherly/sisterly love grew stronger and this is where it all begun.

George felt so much secure around Christie and same with Christie. They liked themselves so much so that not even chain saw could be used to separate the two. They had become better friends now than before. They would hug and cuddle up more often than before and usual. Simply put; George liked Christie so strongly and Christie liked him so madly that even a love therapist would think herself mad if the two – George and Christie – were her clients.

George has become extremely involved and engrossed in love with Christie that he cannot pull out. Not much is known about how Christie feels now about him but without a shred of doubt, the signs are there and very clear that Christie might feel the same way about him or she likes him too well.

During one of their Wednesday services at Church around 6 pm, George found a seat in the auditorium and like always Christie would be next to him. But on this occasion, Christie was missing.

Where’s she? Won’t she make it to church today? Is she okay? – George begun to once again think. He would scan through the congregation to see if probably she had changed her sitting position.

Then he looked and looked, scanned and scanned, screened and screened. His eyes moved to and fro in church but he couldn’t find her. George wants her by his side, exactly where she is supposed to sit in church. He then presumes she is not coming to church today and so turns his head to concentrate on the preaching, yet at the back of his mind; he’s still searching for his friend – Christie-

“There she comes,” George spots her cat-walking majestically towards his position. Christie is coming. She sat just where her seat had been prepared for her beside George.

He steals a glance at her. She gives him a smile, then a grin, then turns her head and looks on to listen to the preaching of God’s Word. They both are enjoying the Word of God. It gets more interesting. The whole congregation burst into laughter as the Pastor chips in a line of amusing messages.

Christie turns her head and looks George in the face, then laughs uncontrollably. George fixes his eyes on Christie and laughs back. He looks at her again and this time; sees something new about her beauty.

“I’m in love with her” (George talking in his heart)

“Lord, this can’t be real. Lord, forgive me. I’m falling for her. I’m getting extremely emotionally attached to her. Could it be love? Am I in love with her? Lord, I can’t do this to my friend, Sammy. It’s Sammy’s girl, not mine. I can’t betray my friend.

“Should I tell her now how much I’m falling in love with her? No! What if she loves me too? I may ruin their relationship. Should I keep it to myself? I’m burning inside! Should I inform my Pastor? Yes/No!! I love you, Christie but I can’t do this to my friend. I’m not gonna tell her anything. I will survive this,” George keeps contemplating up until he heard “Shall we share the grace (from the Pastor).”

“Ei, we have closed. Hmmmmmm…I didn’t even know.” – He chatters.

Christie bids George ‘good bye’. They both hug and part ways.

George boards a vehicle to the house swollen-headed and lost in thought. He reaches his house, rushes to his room, undresses and slumps heavily into bed but cannot sleep. [Still thinking about Christie]

Obviously, George is head over heels in love with Christie. The more he pats his cheeks to change the subject in his head, the greater his love for her. What should he do?

I love her!

Sunday, 15th February 2015; [sitting with George inside his apartment as he weeps bitterly and confides in me to give him counsel] my friend is genuinely in love but he fears to betray his friendship with Sammy; his good friend.

I hand him a handkerchief as he continues to sob like a baby

My friend is in LOVE with his FRIEND’S GIRL; this line rhymed in my mind as I figure out what to tell George tomorrow.

Mercy Lord! Mercy!!
