Communication Minister, Omane Boamah has hit back at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for questioning why the Mahama – led administration has not been able resolve the three-year-long power crisis inthe country.

According to him, government is aware of the plight of Ghanaians and is working vigorously to resolve the situation.

Ghana is currently reeling under a worsening power crisis, which the President and the Minister of Power have explained is the result of poor water levels in the three hydro-electric power plants – Akosombo, Bui and Kpong – as well as lack of gas from the West Africa Gas Pipeline coupled with faulty equipment and plant shutdowns for routine maintenance.

Power producers, transmitters and distributors are currently shedding between 440 and 650 Megawatts of power during off-peak and peak periods as a result of a worsening supply deficit, instead of a planned 250 and 350 Megawatts.

But the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said government is not doing enought to end the crisis. At a recently held demostration over the power crisis popularly known as dunsor, the opposition party charged Ghanaians to vote out the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections.

Speaking on Asempa FM Friday, Dr. Omane Boamah wondered why the NPP is only criticising government but has refused to offer solutions to solve the problem.

"The NPP can question why we are suffering from dumsor but the truth of the matter is that it has already happened and so why don’t we think of how to solve the situation rather than questioning why we have dumsor" he quizzed.

He stated emphatically that the NPP should not delude themselves into thinking that 2016 elections will be a cool chop due to dumsor becuase it will fall flat in their face.

Omane Boamah was however confident that the energy crisis will definitely come to a halt adding that construction of the 360 megawatts plants is underway to help ease the situation.
