Nana Obiri Boahen Cautions NDC Communicators And Their "Rented" Newspapers

NDC Communicators and their "rented" newspapers have been cautioned by the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen to stop inciting the Akan people against other ethnic groups to achieve political score.

A former Finance Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Yaw Osafo Marfo has recently come under heavy hostility after a tape emerged with a male voice spewing tribal comments.

The male voice alleged to be that of Osafo Marfo is heard bemoaning why Akan-speaking people, whose regions are rich with natural resources, are not the ones at the helm of managing affairs in this country.

“…You have all the resources, but you have no say in the management of your resources and that is what is happening. Your development depends on the one who has no resources…you can’t say this openly,” the voice said.

Reacting to the publication, Nana Obiri Boahen on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show said the supposed tribal comment made by Osafo Marfo is not the position of Akans and the NPP fraternity since that was not a resolution passed by the council of elders in the Eastern Region.

He was resolute that the New Patriotic Party is not an Akan party, making it improper for the NDC communicators to draw conclusion that Osafo Marfo spoke on behalf of Akans.

According to his assessment of Ghana politics since 1990, “if an Akan person from Dombo, Dankwah and Busia Tradition makes comment, there is a twist interpretation given to it; and when Akan person who is not part of the tradition makes a similar comment, there is no twist to it”.

He bemoaned the hypocrisy that when any other ethnic group says something untoward about Akan people, it should be accepted and when the latter repeat similar thing which is historically incorrect, that should be considered the position of Akans; quizzing “is that proper?”

“The Enquirer newspaper and people like Fred Agbenyo have been doing all kinds of cartoons and nonsense publication against Akans and nothing is said about them...for far too long, this attempt by people to incite Akans against other ethnic groups in the name of politics will not help anybody,” he bemoaned.
